Kenai River King Salmon Fishing

Kenai River King Salmon Fishing Trips

The Kenai River is famous for producing the world's largest king salmon (Chinook salmon). Early-run kings enter the river during May and June, and the larger late-run fish begin entering the river during July.

Kenai River king salmon typically weigh between 25 and 45 pounds. However, we catch a number of exceptional fish weighing over 60 pounds each year. Weighing 97 lbs. 4 oz., the current IGFA world record king salmon was caught from the lower Kenai River on May 17, 1985.

Typically fished from a boat, common king salmon fishing techniques include back trolling, back bouncing and drifting. Common lures include spin-n-glo and plugs.

We offer guided Kenai River king salmon fishing trips May through July.

Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing

Alaska Silver Salmon Fishing Trips

Try silver salmon (coho salmon) if you desire lots of action. These hard-running, frenzied fighters are a favorite among many anglers because of their aggressive nature and plentiful numbers. Silver salmon weigh from 6 to 18 pounds and are generally fished with light tackle. Silvers are also accompanied by huge schools of pink salmon during even years.

Silver salmon fishing trips are available from August 1 through October 31.

Sockeye Salmon Fishing

Sockeye Salmon Combo Trips

Sockeye salmon (a.k.a. red salmon) typically weight five to eight pounds, but exceptionally large fish can exceed 12 pounds. Weighing 15 lbs. 3oz., the IGFA world record sockeye salmon, was caught from the Kenai River during 1987. Reds run June through August 15th. A favorite among local anglers for their abundance and quality, these fish shouldn't be overlooked. They are best caught from shore using a drift method, and many anglers spend the long summer evenings casting for them at the numerous public fishing areas along the Kenai River.

Pink Salmon Fishing

Pink Salmon

During even years (e.g. 2020), huge schools of pink salmon averaging four to seven pounds accompany the silver salmon return. Pink salmon are easy to catch and fun for the entire family. They make delicious smoked salmon, and a large catch limit allows one to easily fill the freezer.

We generally do not book pink salmon fishing trips. However, if you decide to bring children or family, and want to catch lots of fish, pink salmon are usually abundant and easily caught during even years.

Kenai River Rainbow Trout Fishing

Alaska Rainbow Trout Fishing Trips

From August to October, the Kenai River offers some of the best trophy rainbow trout fishing in Alaska. On a typical day, an angler can land 15 to 25 of these hard-fighting, acrobatic fish. Although it is legal to retain rainbow trout, we currently offer catch-and-release fishing only.
