No Bait Jigging
Captain John Jan 02, 2016

We are the only no-bait, jig-only bottom fishing charter out of Homer, Alaska. Give us a try if you want a unique fishing trip, prefer lots of action, lightweight gear, no bait checks, feeling the bite and hooking your own fish! We typically use 12-16 ounce jigs on lightweight Shimano Trivola rods, not 2-5 pounds of lead and slabs of bait on heavy "broomstick" poles!
Our fast-moving Homer charter boat Red Ryder is uniquely configured and outfitted specifically for drift-only artificial jig fishing. Our anchor is never deployed, so we have the freedom to quickly move to a better location if the action slows.
We also operate the boat in a manner which compensates for tidal currents and wind, allowing us to drift fish where others cannot. While others drift at the mercy of the elements, snagging bottom, often with two or more pounds of lead and bait scoped-out at a nasty angle, we typically fish comfortably with 12-16 ounce jigs angled straight down, allowing us to effectively fish the most rugged bottom topography with ease and minimal snagging.
Exceptions... We will use bait while fishing for saltwater king salmon and silver salmon.
