Homer Fishing Report - June 2016
Tall Tale Charters Jul 01, 2016
The month of June is behind us but not forgotten. Fishing was very good, and we had lots of fun on the water with clients. We are also seeing lots of healthy fish and more whale activity than usual, which may indicate more baitfish in the area. Based on what we've seen this June, the fishing outlook looks good.
The only bad thing about June is we didn't take enough pictures! Here are a few...
Cortez Kennedy and Friends
We had the pleasure of taking Bob Carnes, Jim Balamaci and Seattle Seahawks Hall of Famer Cortez Kennedy on a couple of halibut/rockfish combo trips aboard the Red Ryder. Bob, Jim and Cortez are longtime friends and kept us laughing with their down-to-earth sense of humor and competitive nature.
Each of two days, they were able to obtain nice limits of black rockfish and halibut, and they witnessed fish feeding on top of the water column, which is uncommon and interesting to watch. As a bonus, several groups of very active humpback whales gave us a nice show while feeding in lower Cook Inlet. It was a great two days of friendship, fun and fishing!
Golden North Crew
We had a great time fishing with Jim Stephens and his crew from Golden North during late June. Even though there was some rain and wind to deal with, they hung in there and caught an assortment of good fish. These locals book with us every year and are always a lot of fun ...even when one of them catches a 300 Yamaha!

Jim and his Golden North crew rock! It's all about the experience and fellowship for them. Rain, shine or whatever, they just chill, unwind and enjoy ...always big fun fishing with this group!
