Sockeye salmon fishing in the lower Kenai River is best mid-July through mid-August. Fishing the middle river can be good well into late August. They are a favorite among many anglers due to their abundance and quality. Best caught from shore using a drift method, many anglers spend the long summer evenings casting for them at the numerous public fishing areas along the Kenai River.
